HSBC

Shot TVC and stills for HSBC last month and both the commercial and print ad were unleashed upon HK and Macau television viewers, public transit passengers and newspaper readers a few weeks ago. Really fun/funny job - the campaign is apparantly meant to highlight how the bank and its magic money cards are the key to fine wining and dining so that entailed female model Natasha and I demonstrating to the best of our ability how to live the high life. That meant feasting on lobster, sushi, decadent desserts, etc. Sounds pretty good, right? One small problem - she abhors seafood and I'm a vegetarian. Plus, film costs mucho dinero so you have to cram as many usable takes in as short a timeframe as possible so no leisurely nibbles. No no, BIG bites and FAST chewing, all while looking like you're in a state of deep, unadulterated bliss. Haven't seen the TVC component yet so hard to determine if ultimately we were convincing but here's the print ad:

You are quite a good looking asian guy...
and very brave for quitting i-banking for modelling. At least you have something to fall back on if this career choice doesn't work out.
btw, may I ask which bank did u work for?

hey catherine, how's it going? thanks for visiting. i worked for citigroup. are you in finance?

Thanks for the reply :)
Yes, I work in the city. That's why I was rather stunned to know that an ex-banker (I assume IBD?) chose modelling over a prestigious banking career. I am very intrigue to know why you made this major change? Both of the professions are so different...

Keep up with the blogging! I am your first fan! :)
ps. I would love to see you in movies in the future!

hey cat, good to hear from you again. hope you enjoyed the unusually nice weather today!
yep, i was in IBD and that sort of answers your question of why i ultimately left finance. 80 hours of doing something you really don't like typically compels you to quickly sift through your options. post-banking i spent a few years working as a finance director for city government and with the more manageable work hours, i started modeling on the side. enjoyed it and was able to pay the bills while traveling the world so it was an easy decision to transition to full-time status.
which bank do you work for? IBD as well? do you enjoy it?

Hey Richie, love your new pictures :)
No wonder you had a career change... I work for rbs (in markets) so the hours are slightly more tolerable and tbh I really enjoy it! Just hope I will be able to keep my job in the next few months...

Have you ever thought about going back to work in banking again?

aw, thanks cat.
hope you're able to weather the storm - sounds like you're good at what you do so should be no problem :) for those that survive the cuts, bonuses will be inevitably slashed to pieces though huh?
no plans to go back to banking. unlike you i didn't enjoy what i was doing - have tucked that chapter away and framed it as a learning/growth experience!
